May 19, 2009
Results from a year hearing study involving more than people has shown that people with type 2 diabetes very frequently have hearing loss in larger numbers than people diabetes. The hearing loss frequently starts at an early age and will progress with people who have diabetes.
They suggest that usual care for people with diabetes include questions about hearing function and referral for hearing assessment.
Edward A. Maznio, President and Founder of PurTone Hearing Centers of Arizona who provides hearing aids in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise and Peoria Arizona stated. “The findings of this study are as applicable in the United States and particularly in our Arizona communities as it is in Australia. The findings underscore the diversity of causes of hearing loss and the need for early detection. Early detection and non-medical correction of hearing loss in Arizona is our primary goal. Early detection allows us to help keep our patient’s lives on track by staying connected to the world around them. This study is invaluable to PurTone Hearing and will help us improve patient care by encouraging those in our communities to pay closer attention to their hearing, especially if they’ve been diagnosed with diabetes.”
