A Little Advisements for Remodeling Child Crib Sheets as Your Little Angel Grows Older

Safety concerns should always be realized when making decisions on baby bedding purchases. Many different child safety groups have recommended which brands to buy and how to correctly use crib bedding. There are safety guidelines in place for a reason; you don’t want your child to suffocate in his or her sleep.

They believe that infants should not have soft bedding in the crib, and that they should sleep on their backs. For safety purposes, babies should not be surrounded with any items in their crib, regardless of the lack of aesthetics. Going with the guidance, there should be no mattresses in the crib without fitted sheets to go with them. To maintain a blanket’s suitability, make sure it is strongly tucked in at the end of the bed and does not go up past the baby’s chest.

Crib bumpers are an issue for debate. They are secured to the sides of the crib and are not likely to interfere with the baby’s breathing; however, many pediatricians argue that they impede air circulation around the crib. Problems with bumpers have led to the production of many alternate methods. There is no universal consensus as to the usefulness of crib bumpers, and accordingly you will probably find one in the set when you purchase your baby bedding. The parent must decide if a crib bumper is the right choice for their baby’s crib and should take into consideration the many conflicting opinions on the matter.

To avoid a suffocation hazard, the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines on minimum bedding should be closely adhered to, until babies reach at least twelve months of age. Parents should realize that until a baby is a year old, safety precautions should still be used when modifying the crib area. By the time a baby can sit up, and definitely by the time he or she can stand, lower the mattress in the crib and remove any items that can be used as steps. A crib bumper is easily used as a foothold; it should be removed to keep the baby from climbing out of the crib.

After your child’s first birthday there is a much lower risk of SIDS, meaning that you can add items to make the crib more comfortable and decorative. Identical bed skirt and comforters have the potential to go with the baby nursery theme. Baby fuzzy blankets make for great cuddling and provide much needed warmth. While many toddlers appreciate a plush toy in the bed to help ease the nighttime routine, pillows are better for two-year olds.
