White Spots on Your Gums

August 27, 2009

A fungus called Candida Albicans, which is actually white spots on the gums, is in the mouth of every person. In a body kept healthy, this fungus is maintained by helpful bacteria. But there are some products such as antiobiotics and birth control that kill and weaken the helpful bacteria, making way for the Candida Albicans to grow and take over.
Leukoplakia is another condition that creates white spots on the gums, and can be located at any spot in the mouth, like on or under the tongue, the roof of the mouth, below the lips, inside the cheek, or on the gums. These spots you find might be tiny, or even the size of a quarter; they are not cancerous but could signify a pre-cancerous condition that is created by frequent irritation. Smokers frequently find that they have leukoplakia due to the frequent heat irritation caused by the cigarette or pipe in their mouth.

If you want to avoid having these white spots form on your gums and are willing to sacrifice a couple hundred dollars for professional help, then the best option for you would be to have an in-office treatment session, especially if you know that you have sensitive gums or teeth.
