Would You Try These Popular Massage Therapy Treatments?

February 27, 2010

Some people’s idea of massage is still a giant masseur slapping away at your thighs. Maybe is it time to update this out-of-date concept of massage? In reality, current massage practices run the gamut from relaxing treatments to focused sports therapies.

The technique called deep tissue massage is known to heal the deepest muscle layers and the connective tissues. Deliberate strokes are applied across muscle groups.  This practice is also known as the friction technique. This  is astyle of treatment used on people who experience painful or chronically tight muscles, repetitive muscle strain, trouble with their posture, and those who are recuperating from major injuries.

Next, there comes a Japanese massage therapy called Shiatsu. This therapy utilizes localized finger pressure following some rhythmic sequence similar to that found in acupuncture.  The point is held for between 2 and 8 seconds. because the massage is meant to enhance the energy flow within the body, rather than deliver just relaxation.

Finally, there comes a practice gaining popularity, known asThai massage. Thai massage actually resembles Shiatsu in such a way that it re-aligns the body’s energy by applying gentle pressure on select points. Special compressions and stretches are initiated, and a variety of therapeutic postures are followed.
